- Opportunity to work on a significant project to improve planning for Melbourne’s Green Wedges and agricultural land.
- Opportunities at VPS4, VPS5, and VPS6.
- Fixed-Term 2-year roles.
Opportunity to play a significant part in protecting and supporting agricultural land around Melbourne and improving planning controls for the Green Wedges. You will form part of a specialised team in state government, liaising with local councils and other significant stakeholders in the development of the planning response and planning changes for these important assets.
The four roles we are currently recruiting for are:
Planning Manager (VPS6) – Responsible for the delivery of the overall project and management of the team. Acting as the conduit between the senior leadership group and your team you will have a strategic mind-set that will allow you to pre-empt potential road-blocks, manage resources, resolve potential issues and inspire your team to innovate and find creative solutions.
Principal Planner (VPS5) – The “technical lead”, you will be the subject matter expert for the project, possessing a deep understanding/interest in planning for agricultural land, green wedge management and effective planning provisions. You will be the go-to person for your team, local councils and other stakeholders in helping to determine the planning response to deliver on key government actions and election commitments.
Planner (VPS4) – The “writer” in the team, your ability to translate policy into effective planning provisions, drawing from your expertise in planning, you will play a vital role in the implementation and overall success of the project.
Project Officer (VPS4) – Providing critical support across the team you will play an important role in coordinating and supporting key consultation activities and working with the team to progress the project.
Candidates will ideally be planning qualified (although non-planners with subject-matter experience would be considered), and possess strong stakeholder management skills, verbal and written communication skills and some management experience for the more senior roles. Experience working within one of the green-wedge or peri-urban councils, and/or having worked on translating strategic policy into effective planning controls and design guidance.
Initially employed on 2-year fixed-term contracts, these are great roles for candidates who are either passionate about the complex planning issues, particularly the protection of agriculture, planning for green wedges and developing design guidance , or are looking for an opportunity to enter state government and work in a policy-related role.
