This council are keen to establish themselves post-covid as being “open for business” and are seeking a senior planner who can work closely with the economic development team to help facilitate new development within the municipality.
Working across commercial, industrial and residential (larger scale) sectors, you will work with the eco-dev team in talking to business owners and developers at pre-application stages about their anticipated planning requirements for potential sites, facilitating their requirements where possible and acting as a conduit through the statutory planning application process by navigating and speeding up internal process. The three main traits of the applicant will be:
- Whilst classed as a facilitator, the client is not looking for a yes-person and good community outcomes remain paramount to all developments. The successful candidate should be able to say “no” where required but do so in a manner that fosters ongoing discussion and seeks to reach alternate outcomes if possible.
- The successful person will be able to develop good rapport with potential applicants primarily through the development of trust in what they say, ensuring that promises around decisions and timeframes are adhered to, allowing the business to make firm decisions about projects.
- Be technically competent across a broad range of developments, including larger scale applications.
Looking for stability (council appreciates that the reputation of the planning officer will play a key role in developing a long-term council reputation), so a permanent role is on offer – (or contract with a view to permanency).
