This small but talented and growing development team are seeking a Town Planner to join their team.
Reporting to the previous Planner (who has moved into a full development manager role), this role will be responsible for the day-day management of their own commercial town planning applications. You will perform most of this role as an internal planning consultant to the development team, although for major applications (for example those that have the potential to be resolved in VCAT), you will be involved in briefing and managing external planning consultants.
This is an ideal role for candidates looking to transition into a broader development managers role (as with the previous incumbent), so in addition to your “planning” duties, there is scope to get involved in both the front-end (site feasibility and design) as well as some input into the construction phases of the project.
Busy but not overstretched the planning component of the role will probably account for 3 days a week of work. This means that we’re open to looking at applications from someone prepared to leverage their planning skills to get a role in broader property development, working predominantly in planning but learning and developing broader property skills on the other 2 days a week.
Working as the main planning resource for the company it is expected that you will have a good base of planning skills to confidently handle planning projects of medium complexity (majorly complex projects will be still be handled via external planning consultancies), which is likely to mean that you have Victorian planning experience. Furthermore you will understand how your advice to the broader development team in terms of certainty of approvals, potential conditions to be imposed, and approval timeframes play a critical part of the development process and your advice to the development team needs to reflect your understanding of the nuances of these factors.
Offering a pathway into in broader property development roles this is a rare opportunity which wont be around for long.
