Rural council located north-east in Victoria, seeking a Building Surveyor either Unlimited or Limited to join the team on a permanent basis. The focus of the role will be to ensure that Council’s statutory building obligations are met, and relevant requirements of the Building Act and the Regulations are completed professionally in a timely manner.
Key responsibilities include:
- Fulfil delegated Council duties as required.
- Prepare and issue building permits efficiently in compliance with legislative controls.
- Establish and maintain registers and procedures for general building safety and essential service maintenance.
- Manage the Swimming Pool and Spa register and provide an inspection service.
- Maintain records and ensure data is collected and reported in accordance with statutory responsibilities, policy and best practice.
- Respond to emergencies within the municipality and report to Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Administer and enforce provisions of the Act for illegal building works or other offences under the supervision of an MBS, including representing Council at the Building Appeals Board and other related bodies.
- Provide expert advice to Council’s internal departments.
The scope of work will be approx. 20 permits per month working on various projects including commercial (ie: sports/aquatic centres and retail), low-rise residential, sheds, demolition works and swimming pools.
Council is open to the successful incumbent being engaged on either a full-time or part-time basis as long as a minimum of 3 days in the office can be adhered to. You must possess a good customer service mind-set, prepared to communicate face to face with applicants and stakeholders. You will have the ability to work across all facets, the team is small so the expectation with be to work on permits, enforcements as well as a training and passing on knowledge to Cadet staff.
