An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Building Surveyor, Unlimited to provide expert technical advice and support to the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) in the Office of the State Building Surveyor.

About the Role:

We are seeking multiple experienced Building Surveyors, Unlimited to join the Office of the State Building Surveyor on a fixed‑term basis through to 30 June 2027.

The Building Surveyor, Unlimited role provides expert technical advice in the delivery of State Building Surveyor functions, with a focus on the delivery of technical advice and support to the Building and Plumbing Commission on the performance of their statutory functions.

The role will contribute to the continuous improvement of building standards and compliance in Victoria through the provision of advice and guidance. The role is also instrumental in providing technical advice and guidance to the BPC in carrying out their statutory functions.

Reporting to the Manager, BPC Support, this role will support the implementation and/or ongoing delivery of nominated projects to achieve the BPC’s strategic goals and responsibilities under the Building Act.

What we are looking for:

You will bring:

  • Current Victorian Registration as a Building Surveyor Unlimited with no conditions and significant experience practising as a Building Surveyor.
  • Strong capability in delivering training, mentoring, and field-based support, including site inspections, audits, and constructive feedback.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, with experience building effective relationships across regulators, government, industry, and professional bodies.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, staying current with industry developments, legislative change, and contributing to regulatory reform and projects.

About the BPC

Established in 2025, the BPC is Victoria’s new independent regulator for the building and plumbing industries. The BPC brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation have come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution , and domestic building insurance.
