Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Essential Safety Measures Specialist to join the team on a contract basis. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with essential safety measures within buildings and facilities referred by the fire brigade, contributing to the safety and well-being of the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings and facilities to ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Identify and assess risks related to essential safety measures, including fire safety systems, emergency exits, and building access points.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address identified safety risks and ensure the effective maintenance of essential safety measures.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on matters related to essential safety measures, including compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with external contractors and service providers to coordinate inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to essential safety measures, including inspection reports, maintenance schedules, and compliance certificates.
  • Participate in emergency response and management procedures as required, including providing support and guidance during critical incidents.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as Building Surveying or Fire Safety Engineering.
  • Proven experience working in a similar role, preferably within a local government or regulatory environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards related to essential safety measures, including the Building Code of Australia, Australian Standards, and relevant state regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and assess risks and develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
