Building Inspector required to provide services to the Building Control team within council on an initial 4-month contract basis (strong possibility of going on beyond). The role will ensure that all delegated building control responsibilities of the MBS are completed in an efficient, professional, and timely manner. Building Inspector Unlimited registration desired however, experienced Limited Inspectors will be considered.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with the inspection functions in the administration of the Building Act, Regulations Codes, and any other relevant Acts, Regulations and Local Laws & Standards.
  • Undertake building investigations and inspect illegal building works as directed and report findings.
  • Provide assistance and factual information to residents, proprietors and customers with regards to regulatory/statutory requirements and construction.
  • Prepare Building Inspection Notices, Orders and other relevant Directions as required.
  • Prepare reports on all investigations and inspections carried out while keeping the MBS informed and updated.
  • Attend to enquiries as required for building permits, reports and consents and other relevant information.
  • Initiate action on all requests and/or complaints that relate to the areas of responsibility for the position and as directed.
  • Attend emergency callouts.

You will possess the ability to ascertain whether proposed building constructions comply, make decisions regarding matters related to the building services teams including interpretation of building legislation, essential safety measures, dispensations and emergency public safety issues and exercise judgement in building related matters. If you are available immediately on a 4-5 day basis this is the role for you!
