The BPC is seeking a Plumbing Engineer to provide specialist technical and regulatory support to the Office of the State Building Surveyor!

About the Role:

This role focuses on complex plumbing matters requiring engineering analysis, technical interpretation, site‑based assessment and authoritative regulatory advice.

You will provide expert advice across all plumbing disciplines, including water, sanitary, drainage, gas, fire protection, mechanical services, heated water, on‑site wastewater and system interfaces. The role involves reviewing complex designs and performance solutions, assessing technical submissions and installations, attending site inspections where required, and supporting robust, consistent and defensible regulatory decisions across Victoria’s plumbing system.

What we are looking for:

You will bring:

  • Broad technical experience across plumbing engineering, hydraulic, mechanical and fire services, with strong multi‑disciplinary plumbing knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Act 1993 (Vic), Plumbing Regulations, National Construction Code, Victorian regulatory instruments and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Proven capability in reviewing plumbing designs and documentation, including specifications, calculations, reports and performance‑based solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting site inspections and technical assessments, delivering practical, defensible compliance advice.
  • Excellent analytical, written and digital skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical reports and use MS Office and business systems effectively.

About the BPC

Established in 2025, the BPC is Victoria’s new independent regulator for the building and plumbing industries. The BPC brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation have come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance.
