This local council is situated about 4km of Melbourne CBD covering 43 square kilometres encompassing some well-known Melbourne suburbs. It’s a diverse residential municipality with eclectic mix of retail strips and centres, combined with offices and industrial areas.
The Strategic Planning team is searching for a Principal Strategic Planner to join the team on a permanent basis to project manage and deliver several key projects. This is a Band 8 role which is a leadership role, however, with no people management responsibility – you will be working autonomously with oversight of consultants.
You will be responsible to project manage and deliver several key projects. You will be driving the Housing Strategy and also Neighbourhood Plan – incorporating 20-minute Neighbourhood approach across the municipality and embedding that into the planning scheme. You will be responsible for developing an overarching plan – like an Activity Centre Framework.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Strategic Planner who can demonstrate technical expertise (such as planning schemes and planning scheme amendments). The role is quite autonomous, so you will be someone who is an excellent project manager – managing your own time plus consultants and managing contracts very closely. You will also be someone who can bring project teams together to meet and deliver milestones.
The role will report and also work together (as a peer) with the Coordinator Strategic Planning – eventually reporting to Manager and Director. Due to the nature of the role, you will also be responsible for presenting to the Executive Leadership team and Councillors. Therefore, we are looking for candidates with political savviness and excellent communication skills – someone who can present all the options based on their merits while also being flexible.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Band 7 Strategic Planner who is ready for a step up. This is also a great opportunity for a Band 8 Strategic Planner who is looking for a new challenge.
Salary and Hybrid Working Arrangement:
- Band 8 salary range between $119,223.96 – $134,662.85 plus superannuation.
- Hybrid working: 3 days/week in the office and 2 days/week remote.
