Council are seeking a Building Surveyor Unlimited to work within the Building Services Division as the principal advisor on matters relating to Building Legislation, Acts and Regulations. The role will provide leadership and guidance to ensure obligations are met professionally and fairly administered throughout the municipality, whilst managing a small team of people.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Building and related legislation / acts coupled with the ability to prepare written reports and correspondence on complex issues in a concise and structured manner to target the appropriate audience.
In addition to the smooth running of the Building Services team you will also be responsible for the efficient operation of councils planning enforcement team, both as an authorised officer under the Planning and Environment Act and via management of councils Planning Enforcement team. This helps council in the smooth running of their compliance functions, but also the successful candidate by exposing them to management outside their core expertise of building which can help in further career development.
You will be required to deliver a range of quality building regulatory services including, reports and consents, examination of building complaints, investigate any emergency issues within the municipality, on a range of residential and commercial / industrial project types.
Specifically, you will:
- Provide technical advice, guidance and direction on procedural and legislative matters relating to the building industry.
- Provide a range of assessments, approvals and reports to Council on delegated statutory obligations under the Building Act.
- Provide leadership, direction and mentorship to a team of Inspectors, Surveyors and Planning Compliance personnel.
To be successful, you must possess relevant registration and certification to work as a Building Surveyor Unlimited, extensive knowledge and understanding of building legislation, regulations and codes to provide accurate recommendations. You will be personable with the communication and interpersonal skills to work with a range of members of the public, while possessing people management skills to manage a team.
This would be a great opportunity for either an up-and-coming BS-U, interested in moving into a management role, or someone looking for a potential tree change in a senior capacity.
A Senior Executive Officers salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate (including private vehicle). Based in Bairnsdale, council are open to working with the successful candidate to develop a flexible work arrangement.
